The Conference on the Sociology of the Myths of the Beginnings of the World is an international platform for interdisciplinary dialog among scholars exploring the origins of creation myths through the lens of sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, and philosophy.
The aim of the conference is to understand how myths about the beginning of the world reflect the structure, values, and self-identity of society. We see myth not just as a cultural text, but as a social mirror in which we can see the structure of the world through the eyes of different communities.
Participants will discuss:
- The social functions of creation myths;
- Comparative analysis of beginning narratives in different cultures;
- The influence of mythologies on the formation of collective memory and identity;
- Myth as a means of legitimizing power, morality and order.
The conference is open to sociologists, anthropologists, philosophers, philologists and all those involved in the study of myth as a social phenomenon.
